It audits the page you enter in depth, plus site-wide files and settings: robots.txt, your XML sitemap (we test a sample of its URLs), llms.txt, http→https and www redirects, and how your server answers a missing page. It also tests a sample of the internal links on the page. To crawl every page of a large site, use the Site Audit tool or a crawler such as Screaming Frog alongside it.
Autopilot turns the problems it found into a four-phase plan: Week 1 (blockers and measurement), Weeks 2–4 (technical and on-page foundations plus keyword research), Month 2 (content and internal links) and Month 3 (speed, AI readiness, earning links and measuring results). That’s who it’s built for. Every check says what it is, why it matters and how to fix it in numbered steps, with a link to a tool that helps and to Google’s own documentation.
Each check has a priority (critical, high, medium or low). Passing checks earn full points, “needs improvement” earns half, failures earn none, weighted by priority. Checks we couldn’t measure are left out rather than counted as passes. If something blocks Google from indexing the page (like noindex), the score is capped at 40, because nothing else matters until that’s fixed.
No. The checks, score and 90-day plan are rule-based: the same site gives the same result every time. When our AI is available, it adds an optional write-up with step-by-step guides for your top fixes, clearly labeled as AI-written.
Usually 10–40 seconds. The PageSpeed Insights test is the slowest part.
It reads the raw HTML your server sends, which is what most AI crawlers see and what Google sees before rendering. If your content only appears after JavaScript runs, Autopilot flags it, because that’s a real risk. Core Web Vitals come from Google’s PageSpeed Insights, which does render JavaScript.
